MEE and three other ministries launch the “Coastal Cities Marine Litter Cleanup Action Plan”
On June 11, MEE and three other ministries has launched a three-year action plan to combat ocean litter across its coastal regions, including 65 bays adjacent to built-up areas in coastal cities. The action plan fully draws on the experience of marine garbage management in Fujian and the achievements of the special clean-up campaigns in 11 key bays to launch a comprehensive "one bay one strategy" marine garbage cleanup campaign. The plan sets clear targets, including the timely and effective cleanup of beach trash along the coastlines of the 65 bays and a significant reduction in the density of floating marine debris in the sea by 2025, as well as the marine debris density in the 65 bays being greatly reduced and the cleanliness level being maintained on a long-term basis by 2027. The action plan defines six key tasks, including establishing and improving a regular management system for Marine garbage, strictly controlling land-based garbage into the sea, strengthening the prevention and control of Marine garbage, timely cleaning up shoals and floating garbage, standardized disposal of land-based garbage, and strengthening the investigation and supervision of Marine garbage, so as to guide coastal areas to form a closed management loop for the overall management of Marine garbage on land and at sea.

MEE issues the “Action Plan on Beautiful Bay Construction”
On June 7, the MEE issued the "Action Plan on Beautiful Bay Construction" to promote the expansion, quality and efficiency of the construction of Beautiful Bay. The plan proposes that the bay should be regarded as the basic unit and carrier of Marine ecological environment protection, and the overall improvement of the ecological environment quality of the bay with the goal of "clean water, clean beach, fish and gulls, and harmonious sea". The target requirements for two time nodes by 2025 and 2027 has been defined as expanding the scope of the construction of beautiful bays from 50 bays to more than 110 bays, exploring and promoting the construction of beautiful bays in seven coastal cities. The plan detailed three specific actions, such as improving the quality and efficiency of beautiful bay construction, protecting and restoring typical Marine ecosystems, as well as improving key sewage outlets into the sea.

Shanghai launches “Product Carbon Footprint Certification” pilot program”
On June 5, the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation launched the “Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Certification” pilot program and released the first batch of Product Category Rules (PCR) for 11 items, Including steel, photovoltaic products, and pasteurized milk. PCF Certification is a program for assessing conformity to related carbon footprint standards. A third-party certification agency verifies and validates the GHG management capability of an enterprise in its overall production and operation journey as well as the carbon emissions and removals of specific products. Enterprises meeting the standards receive an authentication certificate.

The 2024 Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo held on June 5-8
On the afternoon of June 8, the 2024 Shanghai International Carbon Neutral Expo, co-sponsored by the NDRC and the Shanghai Government, ended successfully at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. With the theme of "Path Toward Carbon Neutrality", the exhibition covers more than 100,000 square meters. At this year's Carbon Expo, domestic and foreign key enterprises in various fields have brought the latest technologies and characteristic cases to participate in the exhibition, fully demonstrating the latest progress and future exploration direction in the field of low-carbon. A key highlight of the expo was the establishment of the CN100 (Carbon Neutrality 100) Green and Low Carbon Supply Chains Alliance and the launch of the Green and Low Carbon Supply Chains Casebook, which not only showed the innovation and achievements of enterprises in the green and low-carbon transformation on supply chain, but also provided other enterprises with a path and model for reference.

The National Host event on June 5, 2024 Environment Day was held in Nanning
On June 5, the MEE and two other ministries jointly held the June 5 Environment Day National host event 2024 in Nanning. The theme of this year's June 5 Environment Day is "Comprehensively Promoting the construction of Beautiful China", which aims to further study, publicize and implement the spirit of the National Conference on Ecological and Environmental Protection, and mobilize all sectors of society to actively participate in the great practice of building a beautiful China, realizing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
